Did you know that lentils provide more folic acid than any other unfortified food? That lentils have been found in the tombs of Egypt dating back to 2400 B. C.? And that Pullman, Washington has celebrated the National Lentil Festival each year since 1989?
Lentils may be small, but the Lentil Festival is a big deal. The drive through the Palouse is always beautiful and the people of Whitman county are super friendly. If you’re visiting from the “coast” (western Washington), remember to stash your purple and gold under the seat. This is Cougar country!
It was nice seeing my friend George Sharp, director of the Olympia Visitor and Convention Bureau, at the festival. (George was the former director of the Pullman Chamber of Commerce and was once involved in planning the Lentil Fest.) I also met a fan from my previous visits to the Neill Public Library in Pullman.
