The city of Newcastle, Washington is just north of Renton and south of Bellevue.  It’s unique in that it is separated from both cities by greenbelt areas, so it feels truly set apart from it’s larger neighbors.

Newcastle is also ranked among the “Best Places to Live”.  In the latest issue of Money magazine, editors ranked the City of Newcastle as 19th out of 50 of America’s best small towns for 2013. Money cited Newcastle’s close proximity to work centers and abundance of opportunities for outdoor recreation as reasons for the city’s appeal. “Newcastle is an ideal spot for city commuters who want to commune with the outdoors in their downtime. The town has 40 acres of parks and more than seven miles of hiking trails, and it’s right next to the 3,100 acres of Cougar Mountain Regional Wildland Park.”

Newcastle has a brand new King County Library, and it was the Newcastle Library that sponsored my performance for Newcastle Days.  The events kicked off with a 5K fun around Lake Boren Park.  There were play areas including a climbing wall and spinning ride, pony rides, vendor tents and a petting zoo.  Entertainment included my magic show, community dance groups, and bands Seatown Rhythm and Blues Players, Hairstorm, and Alan White.

These robots were a total geek magnet... and I loved it!

What caught my eye?  High school robotics classes were demonstrating several robots that – no joke – hurled frisbees across the tennis court with accuracy.  How cool is that?!?

Thanks again to Newcastle Librarians Vicky, Donna, and the Friends of the Newcastle Library for sponsoring my show and bringing the KCLS Library2Go mobile to the festival.  When you’re in the area, check out their beautiful, brand-new Newcastle Library.
