The Washington Festivals & Events Association (WFEA) is a nonprofit organization that provides education, leadership development, and resources for producers of festivals and events throughout Washington State.  Their annual meeting was hosted in Olympia at the Hotel RL and festival and event magician Jeff Evans entertained for the opening night party.

Washington State Fairs Convention

Each year fair managers, fair board members, and service members come together at the Washington State Fairs Association convention to reflect on the past season and make plans for the upcoming year.  It’s also a nice chance to socialize and hang out with other professionals in the fair industry, something there usually isn’t time to do during our hectic summer schedule.

Oregon Fairs Association Convention

This year’s Oregon Fairs Association convention was held October 20 – 22, 2016 at the Linn County Fair and Expo Center in Albany, Oregon.  I performed as part of the “Big Party” Friday night and am scheduled to perform for the Deschutes County Fair and the Columbia County Fair in the summer of 2017.  Here are photos from my “fair family” of performers, service members, fair managers, and fair board members at the OFA convention.

Spokane Magician

Spokane Magician Jeff Evans

New fans from the Spokane Interstate Fair

New fans from the Spokane Interstate Fair

This was my third consecutive year being the official Spokane magician for the Spokane Interstate Fair. I performed both strolling magic about the grounds plus stage shows throughout the ten day run of the Fair.

It’s amazing how diverse Fairs are, as they span everything from ag to animals and art to high tech.  Imagine it, and you may see it at the Fair!  Rides on a camelid?  Check.  Big name concert acts?  Got it.  Souped-up tractors that sound like drag racers?  Yessir!  This year they even featured a SHARK exhibit.  A diver swims with nurse sharks in a huge tank and speaks with the audience during his presentation.

It was a nice surprise meeting several people – usually while strolling – who remembered me from previous years.  One teenager came up to me after my stage show and pulled out a dog-eared playing card with his name on it from his wallet.  He signed it and I used it in a trick last year, and he’s kept it in his pocket ever since!  Thanks to my magician friends Jon Bowne and Cecil Lewis for taking the photos of me on stage.  (It’s difficult taking my own picture!)

"It was great to see you again at the Spokane County Fair last night! Our grand kids and their friends (some who are exchange students from Mexico) thoroughly enjoyed the amazing magic you performed before their eyes! You helped make their Fair experience memorable! Thank you for the pleasure of your company!" AnneMarie DeCaro?

While I was performing I also met folks who saw me at the Grant County Fair in Moses Lake and remembered me from First Night Spokane on New Year’s Eve.  (All I remember from that evening is that it was COLD!)

Thanks Courtney for posting this nice review on Facebook“Saw him as the Spokane’s interstate fair and was blown away!”

Timing was perfect to take in the Washington State Chinese Lantern Festival at Riverfront Park which was an amazing spectacle of illuminated colors and artwork.

Pictures don't do this justice; you have to experience it for yourself.

Moses Lake Magician

Magic in the Air for the Grant County Fair

Moses Lake magician Jeff Evans performed both stage and strolling magic daily, giving fairgoers a chance to see a wide range of amazing feats.  Performing for fairs is a mix; it can be wonderfully fun, or miserably lousy.  There are so many variables; hot or cold, dusty or wet, loud or deserted.  But this year’s Grant County Fair in Moses Lake was a ton of fun thanks in a large part to the other top-notch entertainers who were also performing.

Next up for Jeff Evans:  the Wheatland Community Fair in Ritzville on September 1, then the Spokane Interstate Fair September 9 -18.  If you’d like to stay up to date on upcoming public shows, be a fan on Facebook.  To learn more about adding clean comedy and amazing magic to your event ranging from Moses Lake to Seattle to Portland, call Jeff Evans toll-free 877-412-5064 or send e-mail to jeff[at]amazementproductions.com.

CORT Party Rentals Open House

Forget what you think about “party rental” companies; CORT Party Rental’s showroom is more like browsing an upscale retail store.  Sure, they have chairs, tables, tents, and place settings.  BUT – they have it more colors and styles than Baskin Robbins!  CORT Party Rentals in Everett hosted their grand opening at their huge new warehouse and I was on hand to provide close-up magical entertainment.

CORT Party Rentals (21)

I don’t know how many square feet their warehouse is, but it’s HUGE.  There are towering racks of dishes, plates, cutlery, and glasses.  Mountains of cloth in every color of the rainbow.  Automated racks that put any dry cleaning company to shame.  And, the “tent washing station” – fascinating stuff!

After the tour of the facility, attendees were treated to a buffet proved by many different catering companies.  A DJ was spinning vinyl, the Beatniks performed live on stage in a huge tent showcasing what CORT does best, and I performed strolling magic to add pizzazz to the event.
