Co-opatopia Magic
Last weekend I performed for the first-annual Coopatopia held at Saint Martin’s University in Lacey. A cooperative (“coop”) or co-operative (“co-op”) is an association of persons who voluntarily cooperate for their mutual benefit. Learn more at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cooperative
Cooperatives:
- Are owned and democratically controlled by their members.
- Co-op members elect their board of directors from within the membership.
- Return surplus revenues (income over expenses and investment) to members proportionate to their use of the cooperative, not proportionate to their “investment” or ownership share.
- Exist solely to serve their members.
These are good things! Participating businesses and organizations ranged from schools to artist galleries to credit unions and food co-ops.
- Mixx 96.1 FM’s Dave Mann
- Stormy the Clown
It was great seeing some old friends from the community. A special thanks to Gayla with TwinStar Credit Union and Lee with O’Bee Credit Union… both co-ops! And, my friend Dave with Pacific Stage for his always-professional job providing the stage, sound system, and lights.
I even performed magic on the radio for Mixx 96.1 FM’s Dave Mann. (I know you’re thinking, ‘How gullible are listeners to believe a magic trick that they can only HEAR?’ But seriously, it is possible, and I’ve done several magic tricks over the airwaves. )
